Irene Hernandez-Blair, for Chino Valley School Board
I’m a candidate for the Chino Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees because it’s time to re-focus on quality education for all students.
I’m a working-parent and classroom volunteer committed to protecting the  Special Education fund, avoiding further cuts in the classrooms (including teacher positions), ensuring safe learning environments and putting forth stronger efforts in getting more of our high school students enrolled in higher education.
As a concerned member of the community, I am willing to take a strong stance toward providing parents a voice so that they may advocate on behalf of their children freely and without reproach. I promise to communicate openly and provide transparency regarding student achievement, school district performance and expenditure of taxpayer dollars.
Now is the time to expend our energy in retaining great teachers and dedicated classified staff. My goals include working as a team with stakeholders from all “3” cities that are part of the Chino Valley Unified School District with the goal of improving classroom performance and parental involvement.
My qualifications include:
  • 20 years of Public Service Experience; proudly serving children and their families (Los Angeles County, Supervising Child Support Officer)
  •  Participant of CVUSD’s Parent Institute for Quality Education
  •  Active participant in the Campaign for College Opportunity
  •  3 year participant of CVUSD’s Principal for a Day event
  •  Classroom Volunteer
  •  Member and strong supporter of PFA/PTA (Vice-President ’08-’09 school year at Dickson Elementary School)
  •  Member of the CA Association for Bilingual Education
  •  Actively assist/participate in Chino Valley Youth Sports Organizations
  •  I’ve obtained educational certificates, including an Advanced Professional Development Certificate awarded by Cal State Northridge (Rigorous and carefully planned program of professional study with an emphasis on: technical skills in budget & finance, contracting & purchasing, human resources practices, and problem solving & decision making)
  •  Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Public Administration (currently post-poned)
I’m married, have two children and a grand-son. My daughter graduated from Don Lugo HS, my son and grand-son attend local CVUSD schools.
I currently sit on the Citizens Advisory Committee for the CA Institution for Women at Corona in Chino.
In 2011 I was selected as 61st Assembly District Woman of the Year – City of Chino by Assembly member, Norma Torres.
I’m a former appointed Commissioner of the San Bernardino County, Commission on the Status of Women(appointed by Board of Supervisor, Gary Ovitt).
My candidacy is motivated by the need to improve our District’s 3rd year designation as a Program Improvement District because every child deserves a QUALITY EDUCATION!
